The original Kintai bridge was built in 1673 and didn’t stand very long until it was damaged due to flooding. it was then rebuilt and survived for more than 200 years until a typhoon battered it to death in 1950. the bridge that stands now over the nishiki river is the 3rd build and looks magnificent.

The green brigade has precisely touched most of the industries; Automobile can be left as the fuel consumption is the highest in this sector. Efforts have been made in the past to promote electric cars but the end result has not been impressive to many. Electronic cars launched previously had few draw backs like their top speed not exceeding 20 miles per hour, long recharge hours, expensive and two seating capacity. Though they make no noise and are pollution free vehicles it didn’t made any difference.

A lot of time and money has been put in developing these electric cars and make them more lucrative to the buyer.

UK is coming up with a Electric car which will be a four seater, can run up to 70 miles without bothering to be recharged. It’s a Citroen C1 based car, which is joint venture by Peugeot, Toyota and Citroen. It shall take only six to seven hours to charge and can be charged in a 13a normal socket. Subsidies are also being discussed with British government to encourage people to go in for a Citroen C1. By 2011 Citroen C1will hit the market.

Up till now the designs of any of the previous launched electric cars have not tempted most of them to buy one. They are expensive no fancy features or designs and they could not accommodate large families either. Hope fully the scenario will change in the near future.

Another such product, which is with an electric motor running on three wheels, is an Aptera. It’s quite pleasing to eyes and pollution free.

Aptera 2e is originally manufactured in California, USA. Mostly to be launched by the end of 2009. Aptera 2e can run 100 miles without bothering to be recharged. This is a two seater car with comfortable space for luggage. A Navigation system, an air conditioner, Side and front airbags, Power locks and electric windows are few features of the Aptera2. You can go 0 to 60 in less than 10 seconds which is commendable for an electric car. Such features are not present in any of its present counterparts. You can plug it in to any normal outlet of about 110v which will be cost you about 50c. A test drive of the Aptera 2e shall be an experience you had been waiting for.

Aptera 2e will be launched in California initially then Florida followed by Texas. Only by 2010 or2011 it will be available in other parts of the US. With all the state of art facilities, saving a lot of your hard earned money on fuel and being an eco friendly vehicle it will surely be a treat to drive.

Our future lies in these cars. They only do well to the environment and also to your pockets. You might feel it on an expensive side initially but the amount of money you shall be saving on fuel in the long run is remarkable.

Nissan’s upcoming all-electric car could outsell hybrids like Toyota’s Prius even though it can’t drive more than about 100 miles (160 kilometers) without stopping to recharge, a senior executive said.

That’s because, unlike more expensive hybrids, owners of the zero-emission Leaf will be able to save money while saving the environment, said Larry Dominique, Nissan North America’s vice president for product planning.

“Hybrids won’t get you there, range extended (plug-in hybrids) won’t get you there,” Dominique told reporters on the sidelines of an automotive conference in Traverse City, Michigan.

“They’re good technologies, but for the mass market appeal, they have much bigger obstacles, especially on upfront cost.”

Hybrids currently account for about two percent of global auto sales. Nissan expects electric vehicles to swallow ten percent of the global market by 2016 to 2020.

“We are very confident that Leaf will give you a lower cost to ownership,” Dominique said on the margins of the CAR Management Briefing Seminar.

Nissan plans to sell the midsized Leaf hatchback for somewhere in the 25,000- to 33,000-dollar range.

That’s slightly more than the current price of the Prius but up to 20,000 dollars less than the expected cost of the Volt, General Motors’ plug-in hybrid.

The savings also come in the cost of refueling: even in the most expensive electricity markets, most drivers should be able to charge their Leaf at home for less than a dollar.

And even if gasoline prices were to fall below 1.10 a gallon, most vehicles would still cost more to fuel than the Leaf, Dominique said.

Nissan will introduce the Leaf to business and government fleet customers in the United States, Japan and Europe next year.

It is also working with a number of utility companies and local governments to set up public recharging stations so the Leaf can be sold to consumers as soon as late 2010. The Leaf is targeted for a mass market release in 2012.

Dominique acknowledged that it will be a challenge to mass market a limited-range vehicle in the geographically spread out United States.

But the current range will be sufficient to meet the daily commuting needs of the vast majority of drivers and it comes at a time when a growing number of US consumers are concerned about cutting their carbon footprint, he said.

“It’s going to be hard to convince the guy who lives in Butte, Montana who has to drive 40 miles to the grocery store to buy an electric vehicle,” Dominique said.

“We do believe that we’re at this tipping point where if we bring in the right technology at the right price with the right execution… that we’ll be able to convince people this is a great alternative.”

Owners will be able to recharge the battery at home through the domestic power supply in about eight hours, or top it up to 80 percent capacity in around 30 minutes at planned electric recharging stations.

Among other features, drivers will be able to use their mobile telephones to turn on the air conditioning and set the battery charging functions.

If they need help finding the nearest charging station, the navigation system will point the way.

Nissan, Japan’s third largest automaker, was slower than Toyota and Honda to embrace fuel-sipping petrol-electric hybrids, but it is determined to steal a march on its larger competitors in zero-emission cars.

The dream of an electric car, which has been around since the time of Thomas Edison, has so far failed to break into the mainstream because of limited battery life and high costs.

Technological breakthroughs in the development of long-lasting lithium-ion batteries have significantly and lowered the cost of electric vehicles and increased their range and top speed potential.

The Leaf will not be the first mainstream electric car on the market. Mitsubishi Motors recently rolled out its “i-MiEV” minicar while Fuji Heavy Industries launched the Subaru plug-in STELLA.

Hybrid car is an automobile that uses a combination of at least two unlike fuel sources for its impulsion. Even though many combinations can be possible, normally when people are discussing about hybrid cars, they are referring to cars with the combination of either an electric motor, or a gasoline engine, or a battery that influences the electric motor and stores energy for future use.

Due to effective use of technology, hybrid cars develop much higher gas mileage than any other vehicle. In fact hybrid cars stands at the top spot for the most fuel economy car in their relevant categories; compact cars, two-seaters and mid size cars.

Hybrid cars work flawlessly incorporating gas engine, high-powered battery and an electric motor. The battery generates power for the electric motor and is revitalized by recalling energy that would normally be lost when losing its pace or coasting. This recalling of energy is said to regenerating braking. If required, energy from the gas engine can be transferred to recharge the battery as well. Because of these charging approaches, hybrid cars never need to be plugged in.

Full hybrids incorporate the gas engine, electric motor and battery so that the electricity can activate on its own in definite conditions. For some hybrid cars this happens at low speed, and when the car approaches high speed, gasoline engine starts up and takes over. Under the solid acceleration, both the engines electric motor and gas engine works simultaneously and provide the required power.

Hybrid car is categorized in such a way that the arrangement of the internal combustion engine, battery system and electric drive motor permit the hybrid car to be activated solely by the electric motor under definite operating circumstances; normally in low speed strategy and slow cruising.
