AORA, a leading Israeli solar energy technology company, launched world’s first hybrid solar thermal power station at Kibbutz Samar in southern Israel.

This marked the first time that concentrating solar power (CSP) stations can provide environmentally-friendly power 24 hours a day, according to AORA’s CEO, Haim Fried.

AORA’s “Power Flower” station, named due to its unique yellow tulip design, consists of a field of 30 tracking mirrors (heliostats) situated on half an acre of land.

Each of the station’s 30 heliostats tracks the sun and reflects its rays towards the top of a 30 meter-high tower housing a special solar receiver along with a 100 kilowatt gas turbine.

Alternative Sources of Energy

Posted on 25 July 2009 by admin

The field of Alternative and renewable sources of energy is full with diverse sources and resources, all of which are replete with manifold promise and potential. One of these is the source of Biofuels, which are produced by converting organic matter into fuel instead of discarding them simply as waste matter. This includes the use of ethanol and derivatives of plants such as soybean, sugar cane, vegetable and corn oils. Of course, it is an important alternative to the current fossil fuels we all rely intently upon-still, all ethanol products are not usable as an alternative energy source. Still, statistics from the International Energy Agency (IEA) postulate that by 2025, up to 10 % and by 2050, up to 30% of the world’s energy needs (in terms of being used mostly as gasoline) can be met by ethanol as compared to 2% being met today.

Alternative Power

Posted on 25 July 2009 by admin

Alternative power was used for the first time in 1920, during electric vehicles and steam-powered capitulated to the internal combustion engine. An actual image is starting to appear on alternative power systems for the coming years. Millions of dollars have been spent for development of alternative power and still in developing new means of vehicle impulsion, that too with good reason. The automobile industry is underneath an increasing pressure to cut down pollution by developing eco-friendly cars.

Hybrid automobiles, which use electric motors and gas or diesel engines, also are being created with some positive outcomes. But hybrids are more expected to serve as a connection from one technology to the other.
